Technology & Impact
How biomass technology delivers measurable environmental, social, and economic impact
How Biomass-Based Steam Technology Works
BioSteam's technology replaces fossil fuels (coal, oil, gas) with renewable agricultural-waste biomass in industrial boilers. Here's a simplified overview of the process:
1. Biomass Collection
Agricultural residues (rice husk, bagasse, cotton stalks, etc.) are sourced from farmers and aggregators.
2. Processing & Transport
Biomass is dried, densified (briquettes/pellets), and transported to industrial sites.
3. Combustion
Biomass is combusted in specially designed boilers to generate steam or heat.
4. Steam Delivery
High-quality steam is delivered to industrial processes—textile, food, pharma, chemicals, etc.
Key System Components:
- Biomass fuel handling system (conveyors, hoppers, storage)
- Combustion chamber and boiler (fluidized bed or grate-fired)
- Emissions control (cyclone, ESP, scrubbers)
- Ash removal and management
- Monitoring and control systems (SCADA)
Environmental Impact
CO₂ Reduction
Biomass is carbon-neutral: the CO₂ released during combustion was absorbed by plants during growth. Switching from coal or oil to biomass can reduce net CO₂ emissions by 50-80%, supporting Scope 1 & 2 carbon reduction targets.
Fossil Fuel Displacement
Each ton of biomass replaces approximately 0.6-0.8 tons of coal or equivalent oil/gas, directly reducing dependence on imported fossil fuels and enhancing energy security.
Air Quality
Modern biomass boilers with proper emissions control (cyclones, ESP, scrubbers) can meet stringent air-quality standards, reducing SOx, NOx, and particulate matter vs. uncontrolled coal burning.
Waste Valorization
Agricultural residues are often burned in fields (contributing to air pollution) or left to rot. Biomass energy transforms waste into value, preventing field burning and reducing methane emissions from decomposition.
Social & Economic Impact
Rural Employment
BioSteam creates direct income opportunities for farmers, aggregators, and transporters—adding value to agricultural waste and diversifying rural incomes.
VLEs & FPOs
Village Level Entrepreneurs (VLEs) and Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) are integral partners, earning fair prices and gaining access to organized markets.
Income Diversification
Farmers monetize crop residues that previously had little value, improving overall farm economics and reducing post-harvest losses.
